Happy Friday everyone & happy February too! Can you believe how quickly January went? So, this is my first #FridayFive blog post and I’m super excited to share some random thoughts of mine with you guys, hope you enjoy them all.
As it was my business New Years resolution to blog more I thought I’d stick with that theme and kick off #FridayFive with the 5 crafts I’d like to try in 2018. This wasn’t purposely meant to be a workshop plug (oooor was it!?) but the majority of my Meggie’s workshops are planned around the crafts I want to have a go at. Just one of the perks of the job!
I’ve pretty much doubled my creative workshop offering this year and theres still plenty more in the pipeline too so if like me, you want to try some new, fun crafts this year please get in touch.
I’ve totally fallen for paper cutting art recently, it just amazes me that something as simple and delicate as a single piece of paper can make something so perfect and intricate!
I have a few Paper Cutting Workshops coming up at Meggie’s – This months workshop has now sold out but if you’d like to give it a go with me, there is still spaces available on the next Botanical Paper Cutting Workshop with the lovely Jessica Baldry Designs on Thursday 5th April. 6.3opm-8.30pm, £45pp which includes all materials and a craft knife to take home with you.
Weaving seems to be up there with Macrame at the moment as the Wall Hanging trend continues! I love the amazing colour/texture inspo on Instagram from some of my favourite account to follow – go check out Nest and Burrow, The London Loom, Never Perfect Studio and local lovely Catherine Chamberlain who I’m currently in talks with about running some Weaving Workshops at Meggie’s really soon! Keep your eyes peeled for those.
If you’re not obsessed with Lauren Aston’s Instagram and well, just Lauren in general then you should be! She has turned her chunky knit small business into a trend all of it’s own. I’ve never done any knitting before because I wouldn’t trust myself to make anything that I’d want to wear but a chunky knit blanket I can totally get on board with, wanting one in every room of the house adding chunky cosiness.
I can’t wait to welcome the lovely Amber from Thread The Love to Meggie’s soon for a Arm Knit a Blanket Workshop using gorgeous giant yarn! Yep, Arm Knit… literally using your own arms to knit. How cool is that? Again, the first date sold out in 24 hours but we already have a second in the diary if you’d like to join us and have a go yourself. Thursday 17th May, 6.30pm-8.30pm. £75pp which includes all the materials you need to make a single size blanket in a colour of your choice.
Not something I’m able to offer as a workshop here sadly but I am desperate to try my hands at throwing – hang on, is pottery and pot throwing the same thing!? See, this is why I need to learn! I’ve been looking into classes at The Ceramic Studio on the edge of Stratford-Upon-Avon which I think it the closest pottery studio we have here. It just looks so much fun and I imagine one of those crafts you want to keep getting better at.
I recently stumbled across Rare Press on Instagram, a block printing artist from Minnesota and I’m now obsessed with all her work. I find myself mesmerised watching her time lapse videos, I’ve even done that stalker thing when you scroll down through months of old videos just to watch more. She makes it all look very simple although I’m sure it’s not, plus I can’t draw… so I would need a design already printed, I hope that’s not frowned upon in lino printing!? The cutting out though looks like fun and very therapeutic as I imagine you have to really take your time with it. If anyone has any recommendations who else to follow or if you maybe do your own lino/block printing then it’s something I’d love to try, maybe at Meggie’s as a workshop?
So that’s it, my first #FridayFive! Thanks so much for reading. These little blog posts will be making an appearance every other Friday… until I run out of things to write about!
Also, If you’re interested in any of the my Meggie’s workshops please do get in touch, you can see all my upcoming events here. They’re all so much fun and I always get the nicest group of ladies joining us, (men are very welcome too!) and I promise you will leave with something you’re super proud of.
